Background had been hit hard by algorithm updates, which had hugely impacted their presence across the organic landscape. Due to a number of high domain authority backlinks, Money had a good share of voice. However, their overall volume of backlinks was lacking. Their competitors had considerably stronger backlinking profiles, meaning that Money’s online visibility was suffering as a result.

Money needed to invest time into creating original, topical content to secure link placements on high DA media sites. In terms of improving Money’s organic presence, consistency really was key. We needed to build authoritative and high quality pages, PDFs and whitepapers to improve their visibility and domain authority. Fortunately, the House Digital team of expert Link Builders were ready and waiting!

To kickstart our link building strategy, we reviewed Money’s backlinking profile alongside their competitors. This highlighted websites, within relevant audiences, that Money was currently missing from their backlinking profile but were a perfect opportunity to target. This informed our detailed prospects lists for each campaign, working to a list of strict criteria in terms of domain authority and theme. To secure these high domain authority links, we created engaging content and assets for outreach, such as informative articles, infographics, lists and videos.

Every January, Google Trends shows an increase for searches around ‘balance transfer.’ House Digital leveraged this spike in interest by approaching relevant money advice sites and parenting bloggers with content about managing and transferring credit card debt.

We also identified that there was a big trend around January to March surrounding booking holidays and credit cards. The House Digital team produced a short animated video on how to use interest free credit cards. We outreached and secured placement for this on travel and parenting websites.

House Digital also supported Money’s PR campaign, which featured an engagement ring cost calculator. We did this by creating supplementary content, appealing to target placements such as ‘most iconic engagement rings of all time.’ This included a flowchart graphic to help readers work out whether they’re ready to pop the question – the top excuse was Brexit!
