Shopify’s Agentic Storefronts: What It Means for Your Brand

If you’re selling on Shopify, there’s a significant platform update you need to know about, and it has the potential to change how your customers find and buy your products.

Shopify has officially launched Agentic Storefronts, a feature that allows your products to surface directly inside AI conversations on platforms like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google’s AI Mode. In some cases, customers can discover and purchase items without ever even visiting your website.

This isn’t a distant future scenario. It’s happening now.

So, What Are Agentic Storefronts?

Think about how a typical shopping journey looks today: a customer searches Google, lands on your site, browses, and checks out. Agentic Storefronts introduce a new layer to that journey.

Now, a shopper might open ChatGPT and type something like: “I need a pair of trainers that are waterproof and good for hiking, under £80.” The AI responds with product recommendations, and if your Shopify store is set up correctly, your products could be among them. In some cases, that customer can buy without ever leaving the chat interface.

Shopify confirmed that millions of merchants now have access to AI channels, including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, AI Mode in Google Search, and the Gemini app, all managed centrally from the Shopify Admin. With AI-driven orders increasing 15-fold during 2025, the commercial case for paying attention to this is hard to ignore.

Why Does This Matter for Brands?

Product Discovery Has a New Channel

Your products could now appear in AI search and shopping experiences that sit completely outside of traditional search engines. If a customer is using an AI search engine to research a purchase and your products aren’t discoverable within that ecosystem, you’re invisible at a potentially critical point in the buying journey.

Your Catalogue Is Now Your Storefront

Here’s the shift that brands and marketers need to internalise: in an Agentic Commerce world, AI agents bypass your visual theme and layout entirely. They pull data directly from your Shopify Catalogue. That means clean, structured, accurate product data is no longer a nice-to-have; it’s fundamental to whether your products get surfaced at all.

As one developer guide summarised it: if the data isn’t there or isn’t organised, the agent simply cannot see the product.

The Usual Rules Still Apply – But Matter Even More

Product availability, crawlability, and catalogue hygiene have always been important for SEO. In an Agentic Commerce context, these fundamentals become even more critical. An out-of-stock product showing as available, or a missing product description, doesn’t just frustrate customers; it could result in your products being overlooked by AI systems altogether.

Shopify’s Knowledge Base App

Alongside Agentic Storefronts, Shopify has also released a Knowledge Base app. This could influence how your brand is represented and described within AI conversations, essentially giving you more control over the narrative that AI systems draw from when talking about your products.

What We’re Doing About Shopify Agentic Storefronts at House Digital

As Shopify Partners, this is something we’re actively working through with our clients right now. Our approach includes:

Reviewing client stores to ensure products are appearing correctly within AI channels and that catalogue data is clean and well-structured.

Checking for common issues, including out-of-stock products showing incorrectly, missing product attributes, or descriptions that don’t give AI systems enough context to recommend your products confidently.

Offering tailored optimisation recommendations where we identify gaps or opportunities specific to each store’s category and audience.

The Bigger Picture

Agentic Commerce is part of a broader shift in how people discover and buy products online. AI isn’t just influencing search results; it’s becoming an active participant in the shopping journey itself.

For brands, the question is no longer whether AI will play a role in product discovery. It already does. The question is whether your store is set up to take advantage of it, or whether you’re handing that opportunity to your competitors. If you’re a Shopify merchant and want to understand how your store is currently positioned for Agentic Commerce, get in touch with the House Digital team – we’d be more than happy to take a look!
